Hello FCA!

I just wanted to write and give you an update on what is going on here with FCA! Last week our staff was able to attend “Realtime III” in Kansas City. This event, which was hosted by our national office, was intended to refresh and renew FCA staff across the country. It could not have come at a better time. I can’t begin to tell you how much of a blessing it was for Karla and I to attend (spouses came too!). One of the highlights was to sit under the teaching of Chip Ingram. I would highly encourage everyone to visit his website www.livingontheedge.org and download some of his mp3 messages on being a Romans 12 Christian! Wow! I can’t imagine anyone not being challenged and encouraged from his insights into this great chapter!

One interesting moment at “Realtime III” was when a video we submitted for a contest won! I won’t get into it all here, but you can see this video here:

FCA Finance Update:

I really appreciate all of you who have inquired about FCA’s financial situation. God has been faithful. While our support has declined, we have continued to see God’s provision. We have tried to cut our expenses and we continue to trust that God will burden those to give generously so that we can continue to serve our athletes and coaches. We can’t thank those of you who support us each month enough. Your sacrificial giving is such a blessing! Should God burden your heart to give, we are always looking for new teammates. You can give online via our website or by sending support to the address below.

Steele and Lynn Harmon Retiring This Week:

This will be the last week that Steele and Lynn Harmon are officially on FCA staff. While they plan to continue their involvement in an unofficial capacity, they are retiring at the end of this week. There have been so many individuals, myself included, who are eternally grateful for their service to FCA. If you are one such person, perhaps you could take a moment to send them a note at sharmon@fca.org or by mailing them a letter (you can send it to us and we’ll get it to them!). Steele’s FCA areas of Estill, Powell, Clark, and Montgomery counties will begin being serviced by our office in Central Kentucky. The Steele and Lynn Harmon Fund has also been established by our office for anyone who desires to support FCA in their honor. This fund will provide camp scholarships to students in their area and provide seed money for future staff to work in their counties.

Ministry Need:

We have had a computer crash on us at FCA and are looking to purchase a new computer. We estimate that the cost will be somewhere near $1000. If you or someone you know would like to make a special gift to meet this specific need?

FCA Team Chapel Update

Perhaps you read our letter we sent out a few months ago about what God has been doing with the “team chapel” concept here in Central Kentucky (if not, you can read it on our website)? We are so excited to report that more and more coaches are signing up each day to have FCA host a weekly the Chapel Program with their team in their upcoming season. Right now, we have over 25 teams participating and the list continues to grow! If you are a coach that would like to find out more, contact us! Perhaps you are a volunteer that would like to learn more about being a volunteer chaplain next season? We would love to hear from you as well!

Please Pray - New FCA Groups:

Please pray for the new FCA Huddles starting at Georgetown College, Berea College, Tates Creek Middle School, Bryan Station High School, and Leesetown Middle School. Also, we are beginning “Chapels” this spring with the baseball teams at Henry Clay and Madison Southern, and the track team at Beaumont Middle School.

FCA Victory Banquet April 20th:

I would to remind everyone to mark your calendar for April 20th! This will be the date for our annual “Victory Banquet” and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome David Akers, kicker for the Philadelphia Eagles. We are currently signing individuals and businesses up to be table hosts and event sponsors. Getting involved with this special event is a great way to support FCA here in Central Kentucky. Contact us ASAP if you would like to be involved!

God Gets "Cut" From Local Middle School

Finally, I was at a middle school here in Lexington yesterday and was told by one of our Huddle Coaches how her FCA leaders were made to go back and literally cut out the word “God” on several posters that they had made to advertise an FCA meeting. They were also prohibited from mentioning “God” or “Jesus”… a sobering reminder of the battle that is going on around us. Please continue to keep our student leaders and huddle coaches in your prayers as they are on the front lines!

In Him,

P.S. Be on the look out for a special article written by Michael Porter in the March issue of FCA’s Sharing the Victory Magazine!

  1. Hey! Please pray for those kids at Elkhorn Middle School in Frankfort, who are starting an FCA group this Friday, March 13!
